Where NBT Watersystems fit.
One configuration — floating vetiver treatment with nanobubble aeration — adapts across the water problems that face South African municipalities, industry and agriculture. Wherever there's a pond, a dam or a nutrient-loaded effluent, it can be retrofitted in.
Six places it earns its keep.
WWTW & maturation ponds
Around 80% of municipal works discharge partially treated or untreated effluent, largely from overloaded pond systems. NBT + Vetipont™ treats the water in situ — lifting nutrients, coliforms and pH toward licence limits without a plant upgrade.
Eutrophic dams & reservoirs
Nutrient-choked impoundments and irrigation supply. Vetiver strips soluble N and P while nanobubble aeration and shading collapse the blue-green algae that drive the blooms.
Piggery, abattoir & feedlot
High-strength livestock effluent that stalls conventional wetlands. Vetiver grows under very high COD and ammonia loads, cutting organic load quickly on floating pontoons.
Nursery & farm runoff
Fertigation runoff carries a constant, elevated nutrient load. A compact vetiver stand captures and polishes it on site rather than leaching it to ground or sewer.
Landfill leachate
Contained, high-nutrient leachate seepage. Vetiver stays productive under toxic loads, removing ammonia and phosphorus while tolerating the heavy metals leachate carries.
Mine & process water
Acid- and metal-affected water and land rehabilitation. Vetiver tolerates elevated arsenic, cadmium, copper, chromium, lead, mercury, nickel, selenium and zinc for phytoremediation.
Figures are drawn from Vetipont™ trials and two decades of vetiver-system research; site outcomes vary with load, temperature and configuration. See the NBT + Vetipont™ page for the full performance data.
